Chiyoda's Commitment to CSR
As of April 1, 2006
Chiyoda is included in the FTSE4Good Index Series
In March 2005, Chiyoda became the first engineering company in the world to be included in the prestigious FTSE4Good Index Series of socially responsible companies selected by FTSE (Financial Times and London Stock Exchange) of the U.K. This accomplishment recognizes Chiyoda's position as a Japanese company with corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs that meet the highest global standards. We are using this honor, and FTSE's evaluation of our activities, to make further improvements in our CSR activities.
CSR Activities
Chiyoda has established a CSR Division to provide for the integrated management of CSR activities at the corporate level. The division oversees the Compliance Management Office, Social Environment Office, Information Security Management Office, and Export Control Office.

Compliance Programs
Chiyoda is firmly committed to the strict observance of Japanese and all other countries' laws and regulations, global guidelines and internal company rules. In addition, we have a system in place for the real-time dissemination to group employees of the corporate code of conduct, the handbooks providing behavior guidelines and other information concerning compliance, information security and related matters. These activities are conducted on a group-wide basis.
- In 2001, Chiyoda became the first specialized engineering company in Japan to earn ISO 14001 certification for environmental management systems. We have also received JIS Q14001 certification.
- Information security management is based on the Chiyoda Information Security Management System, which conforms to BS7799-Part II (2002, British Standards Institution). The system establishes clear rules and structures for protecting and handling all types of information resources.
- To ensure strict compliance with the Personal Information Protection Law, Chiyoda has established a Personal Information Protection Policy and Personal Information Protection Regulations.
Safety, Quality and Environmental (SQE) Activities
Chiyoda is aware that protecting the safety and health of all individuals working at and with the Chiyoda Group is vital to the Group's ability to succeed. We provide training for all executives and employees and take measures to prevent accidents and other incidents. Through this stance, we constantly strive to maintain and improve health and safety at all workplaces.
- Employee health and safety management systems conform to OHSAS18001, which are the de facto global standards for the engineering industry, and the directives of the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
- Chiyoda's quality management system has maintained ISO 9001 and JIS Q9001 certification since 1994.
Reinforcing Internal Controls
The Chiyoda Group is constantly working on self-assessments of existing internal control functions as well as on strengthening internal control systems. In addition, the Group has established the Operating Auditing Office as an autonomous unit to perform these evaluations. Overall, Chiyoda has a system in place for verifying the existence and operation of a suitable internal control framework and constituent components, and for submitting reports to the Executive Committee.
- To ensure the transparency of information and the effectiveness of audits, Chiyoda aims to establish an integrated framework of internal controls and a real-time monitoring system for senior management.
- To prevent insider trading, an information management system is in place that encompasses Group companies. All important information is reported to the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee as necessary.
Risk Management
Chiyoda has established risk management and crisis management systems to deal with significant risks and has appointed individuals who serve as risk managers and crisis managers. We constantly take actions to prevent the occurrence of problems. In the event that a problem occurs, we have a system in place to which the entire workforce can provide a crisis response to minimize damages.
