Employee Skill Development and Work Environment

Chiyoda promotes employee training with respect for the diversity, individuality and character of employees, and works to create a satisfying and energetic work environment.

Employee Training System

Chiyoda's employee training system includes programs to enhance individual professional growth and strengthen organizational management, as well as support systems for self-development outside of the workplace.

  1. Career Development Program (CDP)
The CDP is a system in which employees fill out a career development sheet (CDS) every three years describing their wishes for their next career step, followed by an interview with their superior and internal job rotation. In the CDS, employees consider the details of their current position, the technologies they want to master, qualifications they wish to obtain, and their ultimate career goals. This system gets employees to think about their next career step by confirming their career direction and career development issues.
  2. Hierarchical Training
Chiyoda conducts hierarchical training for employees at career turning points such as entry into the Company and promotion to supervisory and management positions, with set themes for each level. Education for new employees consists of Introductory Training that includes basic manners and business etiquette, Plant Engineering Training in which they learn the basics of the plant business, and International Business Skill Training designed to improve their language skills as a business tool. In addition, Chiyoda has a unique overseas training program for new employees. After undergoing two months of new employee training at the Yokohama Head Office, employees are immediately sent to overseas plant construction sites for training to give them a first-hand look at what Chiyoda actually builds, and where. Technical employees are assigned to sites for three months, and office staff for one month.
  3. Training Centered on Project Management and Other Key Jobs
Chiyoda believes that project managers with strong coordination skills are key to project success. Selective training programs are implemented for project managers on a project-by-project basis to train them as capable leaders. Chiyoda also conducts training for project key persons (PKP) such as engineering managers, business managers and others who play an important role in ensuring that projects are steadily executed.
  4. Chiyoda Engineering Academy Courses
The Chiyoda Engineering Academy was established as a system for training junior engineers. It enables them to learn technologies from senior engineers who have expertise and practical experience and to acquire knowledge in the specialized fields that make up plant design. Classes are held jointly with affiliate Chiyoda U-Tech Co., Ltd.

In addition to the above, Chiyoda provides English-language skill development focused on business negotiation and presentation.

A Satisfying Work Environment

  1. Employee Survey Results

We conducted a survey of employees in working to enliven and energize the workingplace environment and help employees develop their talents.

We determined an overall satisfaction rating for employees through the final question on the questionnaire - "Are you satisfied to be an employee of this company?" - to which 74.5percent of employees answered either "Very satisfied" or "Satisfied". This is a 2.4 percent increase from the previous survey and a figure that can be regarded as a passing grade slightly above average for employee satisfaction surveys in general.

Chiyoda will reflect the results of this survey in measures to further improve employee satisfaction. Going forward, we will conduct similar surveys regularly to confirm the effectiveness of improvement measures.
  2. Holiday and Work Hour Systems
    • Holiday System:
      • Seasonal Holidays (Three special paid holidays annually)
Employees can add these days to their seven paid holidays to take ten consecutive days off in any season, not just summer. They can also split these holidays into two separate vacations of five days each.
      • Anniversary Holidays
These provide an opportunity for employees to use annual leave days for occasions such as their own or family members' birthdays or their wedding anniversaries.
      • Refresh Holidays
Employees who reach ten, twenty and thirty years of continuous service are granted five consecutive special paid holidays to refresh their mind and body. They can add these to their ten regular paid holidays to take fifteen consecutive days off.
      • Accumulation of Holidays
